School Dinners – Autumn 2021 Menus


We are now offering a choice menu – children can choose from a Red Meal or a Green Meal.

We have a 3-week rolling menu and the children choose on a weekly basis.

Children in Key Stage 2 classes – Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 have to pay for their dinners. They currently cost £2.40 per day – £12.00 per week – which is paid in advance using ParentPay

Free School Meals

You may be able to claim free school meals – it costs nothing to check.

As well as your child receiving free school meals – school will receive extra funding whilst your child remains at Highwoods.

Packed Lunch

Children are allowed to bring a packed lunch instead of having a school dinner.

We would like parents to follow the packed lunch policy guidelines

 

Packed lunches should include:

  • at least one portion of fruit and one portion of vegetables every day.
  • meat, fish, eggs, or a non-dairy protein (e.g. lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, houmous, falafel) every day.
  • oily fish, such as salmon, at least once every three weeks.
  • a starchy food such as any type of bread (white or wholegrain rolls, pitta bread or wraps), pasta, rice, couscous, noodles, potatoes or another cereal every day.
  • a dairy food such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, fromage frais or custard every day.
  • a drink of water, fruit juice or smoothie (maximum portion 150 mls), semi-skimmed, 1% fat or skimmed milk, yoghurt or another milk drink.

 

Packed lunches can occasionally include:

  • Meat products such as sausage rolls, individual pies, corned meat and sausages.
  • Cakes and biscuits, chocolate-coated biscuits, but encourage your child to eat these as part of a meal

 

Packed lunches should NOT include:

  • salty snacks such as crisps – instead include seeds, vegetables and fruit with no added salt, sugar or fat.
  • confectionery such as chocolate bars (Mars bars, Snickers, Milky Way etc.cereal bars, processed fruit bars and sweets.
  • sugary soft drinks, such as squash and fizzy drinks (as these drinks can contribute to tooth decay and provide little nutritional value).
  • Nuts, due to identified children having severe allergic reactions
