Welcome to Year 6, also known as Sycamore class

Year 6 is the final chapter of primary school. A year of exciting challenges and lots of different learning opportunities. This is the year our pupils really have the chance to shine!

Year 6 pupils have many responsibilities, from being House Captains, Play Ground Leaders, Librarians, Reading Buddies and setting a good example to our younger pupils.

In Year 6 you will be expected to work hard particularly in the run up to our SATs assessments but in return, you will be rewarded with many happy memories, lasting friendships, and a growing confidence that will take you onto your next adventure.

We look forward to welcoming you to our class.

Home Learning

We expect Year 6 pupils to read every day for at least 15 minutes. We encourage our children to fill in their reading records when they read at home so we can celebrate their achievements in school. Library books are changed every week and we have a wide range of exciting books for children to choose from.

Children are given a login and username for Times Tables Rockstars www.ttrockstars.com which is a fantastic resource for children to practice and master their recall of times tables in a fun and exciting way.

Year 6 pupils are responsible for bringing their PE kits on a Monday so that they can take part in our Gym, Games and Dance lessons.

Other homework activities will be set throughout the year. We encourage children to complete homework which is in project form and allows the children to be creative. This is usually linked to our Design Technology work.

We value parental support with children’s learning so please do not hesitate to talk to us if you have any questions.

Spelling lists for the year

This list is a guide to the type of words children will need to spell in upper Key Stage 2. It is important that pupils also recognise the different spelling patterns, and understand the morphology of the words – the study of words, how they are formed.
