We all have a statutory duty to “safeguard and promote the welfare of children”.
If you have any concerns about the health and safety of a child at this educational setting or feel that something may be troubling them, you should share this information with an appropriate member of staff straight away.
Some issues e.g. a child’s appearance, hygiene, general behaviour, can be shared with any teacher or member of support staff in this setting. Do not worry that you may be reporting small matters – we would rather that you tell us things which turn out to be small than miss a worrying situation.
However, if you think the matter is very serious and may be related to a child protection concern, e.g. physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect, you must talk to one of the people below immediately. If you are unable to contact them, you can ask the school office staff to find them and ask them to speak to you straight away about a confidential and urgent matter.

Any allegation or disclosure involving someone who works with children in a paid or voluntary capacity must be reported directly to the Head Teacher unless it involves them and then it should be reported directly to the Chair of the Academy Committee.
If it involves them, it should go direct to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO). If in any doubt refer to the DSCP Policies and Procedures and contact the LADO.

We are always here for our children, young people and families 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
If you are worried about a child and wish to speak to a person you can contact us by calling 01302 737777 or in the evening or at weekends call 01302 796 000.

Where you believe there is immediate risk of significant harm the police should be contacted on 999.
Use this form if you have a concern about a child or want to enquire about Early Help.
You can complete the form which will go to One Front Door and you will get one of two responses.
In order for this form to be processed it must be completed in full and consent must be provided (only if a child would be put at risk can a form be submitted without consent).

The Safeguarding Children Team at Highwoods includes:
Head Teacher responsible for implementing policies and procedures, allocating resources to the safeguarding team and addressing staff safeguarding concerns.

Designated Safeguarding Lead a senior member of the leadership team, responsible for dealing with safeguarding issues, providing advice and support to other staff, liaising with the local authority, and working with other agencies.
